Wired Systems

Although wireless surveillance system is the more advanced type of security system today, the wired surveillance system can still be as useful as ever. I would agree to you if you say that compared to wireless surveillance system, the wired surveillance is going to bug you with hassles. Partly, you are correct, and obviously, a part of your statement is arguable. Why? Because setting up a wired surveillance system may be as simple as ABC, if you plan all things well. List down all necessary things. And always read the manual or instruction sheet for a step-by-step list of procedures. It just takes an ample amount of patience, and a strategy.

Equipment

To set up a wired surveillance system, you’ll need a camera for image capture, a network cable/wire for data transmission, and monitors for data output. All these equipment may be bought in the market separately but it is recommended to buy a complete set of security surveillance system that offers more than just an input-output package.

Pros

Hard-wired security cameras are the ideal choice for permanent areas that need constant monitoring. A wired security system increases the value of your home. When you add a permanent wired security system to your home, you increase your property's overall value by increasing its lifetime security. A wired surveillance system can be a direct line to 911—the police, fire department, or ambulance. In the event of a break-in or other sudden emergency while you are home, you can hit the panic button and help will be on the way, thanks to your wired surveillance system! Budget conscious individuals will go for the wired surveillance because for obvious reasons, wired surveillances systems are definitely cheaper than the wireless.

Cons

One main disadvantage of a wired system is the ever popular “hassle problems”. The headaches caused by drilling holes into your walls, laying long lengths of wire around the vicinity, and removing household stuff that blocks the path of the surveillance wire, especially when the thing you’re going to remove has been there since you were born! In addition, you can’t leave the wire network exposed, so they have to be buried or concealed, thus adding more labor. A minor downside is the lack of means to transport your control system device, which is not a general need for most families.

Brands

Some of the most popular brands of security devices like cameras, transmitters and monitors are GE, Honeywell, Flood Stop and Weldex. The prices range from $300 to $5,000 depending on the number of devices included and the extendibility of control and monitoring features.

Some Tips

  • You must take into consideration your reasons for buying certain security devices for your homes.
  • Study carefully all the details of your home.
  • Do some surveys and consult an expert in home security systems for professional guidance.
  • Make sure you pick the most suitable products.
  • Do some research and learn to compare products according to price, quality and functionalities.
  • In equipment usage/installation, be very careful in handling your devices.
  • Always refer to the user-guide to avoid errors.
  • Or preferably, if you are willing to shed more bucks, hire an installation crew.
