Surveillance Kits

Home security alarm systems vary from a single alarm unit to a set of particle sensors, motion detectors, or any type of environment evaluators existing today. These security mechanisms provide home or business owners the ease of living life peacefully.

Components

The sensor is one of the most important components of a home security system. It is responsible for data input. It also acts as the catcher of the stimulus that is used to trigger the alarm or any signal producing device. Sensors are connected to a control unit via either a low-voltage hardwire or narrowband RF signal, which is used to interact with a response device. A common security sensor indicates an opening of a door or window. Motion detectors indicate motion via infrared or laser beams. The control panel is the area where the system wiring terminates. The back up battery is also located here as well as the phone lines (if we are dealing with monitored systems).

The response device is the component that receives the stimulus sent forth by the sensor. The stimulus triggers the response device, causing it to create alarm signals (in the form of sound waves). Sophistication of response devices ranges from small, self-contained noisemakers, to complicated, multi-zoned systems with color-coded computer monitor outputs. The trigger signal from each sensor is transmitted to one or more control unit(s) either through wires or wireless means (radio, line carrier, infrared). Optional components are the panic button and the automatic door / window lock.

Pros: According to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics, about 75% of all crimes in the United States is property crime. In 2003, there were 14 million thefts of property. In 83% of these crimes, the burglars actually entered the home or some other building to steal property. A well established home security alarm system is the answer to these weakening statistics.

Cons: Less flexible than the surveillance system that provides real time video output.

Brands

One of the most popular home security alarm system brands is the Brink’s Home Security. It offers standard and premium brands of security systems at affordable rates. Rated a Consumers Digest Best Buy, the standard system installation starts at just $99, and the premium at just $205. Another is the Monitronics Security Alarm Systems. It is ranked #1 for customer service in the country. It has provided security alarm systems for high-risk events, including the G8 Conference where security was essential for the top international leaders in attendance. The Brickhouse Security offers home owners with high quality alarm system kits at very affordable rates ranging from $139.95 to $199.95 per kit.

Some Tips

  • If you are hiring out to have your home alarm installed, always use a licensed vendor to install, repair, or service an alarm system.
  • Always remember that the best alarm systems rely on phone lines. Check where the lines attach to the house.
  • And lastly, don’t forget to test your alarm systems regularly to ensure that they perform their tasks properly.
  • Preferably, set up a test schedule with your vendor or alarm company monthly.
