Driveway Alarms Driveway alarms are a great tool for home security and monitoring your property. Driveway alarms allow you to know when someone’s entered your driveway, gate, drive-thru, passageways, etc. It’s a simple tool that’s easy to install and you can usually find one of these alarms for under $100.00. You may choose from different kinds like wired, wireless, metal detection alarms, infrared driveway alarms, single or multifunctional alarms. Wireless driveway alarms use motion detection technology that sends signals to a receiver which is usually located inside of a home. Most driveway alarms are programmed to not send a signal to the receiver for pets and/or people walking up. However these sensor based machines can detect any motion on their sensor paths. Most alarms are designed to protect against the elements of the weather. Sunlight has proven to be an enemy just as hard downpours of rain and snowfall have. Some models are completely battery installed while some require an outlet inside the home for the receiver to be hooked up to. The models that require outlets usually feature or come with backup batteries in the case of a power outage. Unless your driveway alarm is apart of a packaged deal or home security protection plan, these devices are a one-time investment. No recurring costs come with individual alarms. You may however customized your alarm and purchase extra sensors for patio’s and walkways. Multifunctional driveway alarms are designed to program more than one transmitter and receiver. These alarms are a little more expensive but offer greater perimeter protection. Before you purchase any driveway alarm you should make sure you measure the distance between the transmitter and receiver before you spend unnecessary money. If your distance is too great, your product will not work properly. Most models range from 100ft to 400ft, however you may purchase a model that has a range of 1500ft to 3000ft. The Security 2020 “Driveway Informer” is a very popular product on the market that costs around $200 if not found on sale. It’s the latest technology for 2007 and is the most reliable product on the market. It has four separate monitoring zones with four unique alarms to determine each zone. It also has a built in counter with a digital display and the full 2 year warranty provides a security on its own. Good companies in the market usually have detailed websites you can visit to view and compare models, prices, etc. Most of these websites and companies offer kits, accessories, and maintenance catalogs to help you understand your product. Either way you go, driveway alarms are an excellent and cheap route to take in home security. |
